Faith and Action vs. Love and Action

Pondering on how Faith and works is similar to love and works. Scripture says that if you truly believe in Jesus and love Jesus there will be action behind your love for Him and your belief in Him — “works”.

Your actions and how you live your life will show your faith in Him and love for Him.

And I’m not talking about going to church.

It’s the same when you say you love your significant other, your mom, your dad, your siblings, your friends. When you love someone, there are actions that naturally follow, and the person receiving your love can see it and feel it too. That person will feel respected, honored, appreciated, remembered and celebrated. I think when there is a deep love for someone, all the above will apply. And when all the above apply, that person will feel loved very often and you will have a good and healthy relationship with that person.

The actions become a reflection of love because it’s proof that your words are not empty.

And most likely other people in your life, even a stranger, will also see it too; because you’re not ashamed to love them publicly.

Having a love for Jesus is just like pursuing any other relationship. When you pursue a relationship with a person, life starts changing. You go from dating, to falling in love, to getting married. You take your whole life and change it and move in with that person. You begin to try and do new things you’ve never done before because your sharing your lives with one another. Everything changes from singleness to marriage, and its a good thing and its exciting!

If there is a true love for Jesus Christ actions will follow, by living a life that honors Him, by spending time in the Word to understand Him and know Him. It’s a natural thing that comes out of the overflow of love for Him.

And that love for Him…well, it will start to change everything in the best way possible. It will start to change in a way you won’t understand until action comes.

Actions that follow the commands of what Jesus says — “If you love me, keep my commands”. We must go into the Word to find out what those commands are. And it‘s not a burden, because it’s out of love that you do it.

There is more to this life than the things we can just see and touch. There is more joy, peace, love and faith to be grasped by the heart, but it is found in Jesus.

And this all might not make any sense, but I promise that pursing Him is the answer. And the “more to this life” that you keep wondering about will be found in pursing Him and living for Him.

Living only for myself, my dreams, and my happiness; it was an ok life. But living for Him has been ‘my best life’ and biggest adventure. And I would have never known it without taking some steps in faith and steps in love. Not just going to church and not just reading my bible, but actually doing what Jesus says.

It hasn’t always been easy and I certainly haven’t always been perfect, but my pursuit of God has been a delight to my soul that continues to satisfy every part of my being.

Jesus is a person.

A person who is resurrected and
is living. Not a just a person who was.

Scriptures

1 John 3:24 AMPC
All who keep His commandments [who obey His orders and follow His plan, live and continue to live, to stay and] abide in Him, and He in them. [They let Christ be a home to them and they are the home of Christ.] And by this we know and understand and have the proof that He [really] lives and makes His home in us: by the [Holy] Spirit Whom He has given us.

1 Corinthians 8:3 NIV
But whoever loves God is known by God.

Matthew 22:37 NIV
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

James 1:22 NIV
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

James 2:19-20,22 NLT

You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. [20] How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless? [22] You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete….[23] And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God. [24] So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.
